Family Tradition BBQ started as a backyard hobby that grew into a family passion in the spring of 2023.
The team consists of Head Pit Master Shawn Stanger, Tina Looker (MOM), and Pitt Crew Nikki (Shawn’s wife), and our family friend Mike.
Now with 2025 behind us and more than enough accolades to keep us revved toward a new season in 2026! We call out to you, our loyal supporters, for your financial assistance once again.
After successfully competing in 21 backyard and master’s series competitions for 2025 here is a list of some of our numerous accomplishments;

We are motivated to increase that number this year and hence increase our visibility as well as add to the awards and recognition as our experience level advances.
We pride ourselves in supporting local charities, in our first season we participated in cooking for multiple fundraising events. In 2025 we created and hosted a cancer benefit bbq competition (Smoke Out Cancer, Melrose, IA) raising over $5000 in proceeds, all given to the recipient. Multiple community outreach events such as coaching at-risk youth in a bbq cook off.
We successfully organized and executed the food portion of an annual Veterans event at Elk Rock State Park in July, “Whiskers and Vets” where we fed over one hundred veterans and their families. We are the first to be asked to be a permanent food vendor in the over 15-year history of this event.
We spend our off-season in preparation of the competition that 2026 will bring by creating an exemplary product whether it be for competition or for our volunteer projects. We have been attending classes and communing with fellow competitors to share knowledge and gain skill. We prefer locally sourced fresh meat, and use it whenever we can, supporting local farmers. Testing seasonings and other sauces as well has helped pass time this winter ensuring we bring the best of the best to the table this year! We have a few new seasoning sponsors this year as well as a new sauce sponsor, so we are planning on spicing things up in a new way this year!

Electrified BBQ – Berryton, Kansas
Based out of Berryton, Electrified BBQ is a competitive Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) team powered by passion, precision, and a serious love for great barbecue. Team members Kyle Williams and Tana Mock bring a balance of grit and refinement to the pit, blending traditional low-and-slow techniques with a relentless focus on flavor, tenderness, and presentation.
Since firing up on the KCBS circuit, Electrified BBQ has steadily built momentum and earned respect across the region with strong, consistent finishes in 2025:

Muppets of Smoke is a competition barbecue team from Independence, Missouri, founded by husband-and-wife team Jared "Kermit" Ham and Raechelle "Ms. Piggy" Ham. United by their passion for barbecue, music, and having a good time, they bring personality, dedication, and championship-level determination to every competition they enter.
Known for their unique Muppets-inspired identity and love of all things smoke and fire, Jared and Raechelle have built Muppets of Smoke into more than just a barbecue team—it's a reflection of their friendship, humor, and commitment to the craft of barbecue. Whether they're cooking ribs through the night, dialing in recipes, or sharing laughs with fellow pitmasters, they embrace the community and traditions that make barbecue special.
